DIY Gourmet Hot Cocoa

These are from the Dallas Morning News. I've tried a couple. I will say that the amount of mix-in on Nutella, chocolate chips, etc. seems a little much for just 8 oz of milk. I had to thin mine down with milk. Also, I heated my milk in the microwave in a mug so that I wouldn't have to wait by the stove. Be sure there is enough empty space in your mug to accommodate the displacement when you add the mix-ins. I'm giving you the recipes as printed. Adjust to your own taste.

Nutella-Cinnamon Hot Cocoa

1 cup whole milk
1/3 cup Nutella
Pinch cinnamon
Pinch salt

In a small saucepan over medium, heat the milk until hot but not boiling.  Whisk in the Nutella, cinnamon and salt. Whisk until the Nutella is completely melted.  Makes 1 serving.

Saffron-Vanilla Hot Cocoa

1 cup whole milk
Pinch saffron threads
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

In a small saucepan over medium, heat the milk and saffron until hot but not boiling.  Whisk in chocolate chips and vanilla extract. Whisk until completely smooth.  Makes 1 serving.

Fluffernutter Hot Cocoa

1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup Marshmallow Fluff (marshmallow creme)
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup peanut butter chips

In a small saucepan over medium, heat the milk until hot but not boiling.  Whisk in the Fluff, chocolate chips and peanut butter chips.  Whisk until completely melted and smooth.  To serve, top with additional Fluff. Makes 1 serving.

White Peppermint Hot Cocoa

1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 tsp peppermint extract

In a small saucepan over medium, heat the milk until hot but not boiling.  Whisk in the chocolate chips and peppermint extract.  Whisk until completely smooth.  Makes 1 serving.

Five-Spice Ginger Hot Cocoa

1 cup whole milk
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
1/4 tsp ground ginger
Pinch five-spice powder

In a small saucepan over medium, heat the milk until hot but not boiling.  Whisk in the honey, cocoa powder, ginger and five-spice powder.  Whisk until completely smooth.  Makes 1 serving.
