Great American Classics: Grilled Cheese

I thought that I would do a couple of posts on American Classics. The first that came to mind was the Grilled Cheese Sandwich:

sorry for the pic, I had to use my phone camera
The All-American Grilled Cheese

2 slices Mrs. Baird's bread
2 slices Kraft Singles American Cheese (the kind in the plastic wrap)
soft butter

Place a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Butter one side of one slice of bread. Place butter side down in skillet. Unwrap cheese and place on bread. You can tear the second slice into pieces to make sure all the bread is covered. Butter second slice of bread and place on sandwich butter side up. Cook 30-90 seconds per side until golden brown. Serve hot.

But, yummy as this is, the variations are almost limitless. Here are just a couple:

Artisan Grilled Cheese: Italian bread, Havarti Cheese, chicken, tomato and basil.

Pepperoni Grilled Cheese: Pepperoni, grated Italian Blend cheese, sliced olives, marinara dipping sauce.
